Olivia Gude is an artist and educator. She has created over 50 large-scale mural and mosaic projects, often working with inter-generational groups, teens, elders, and children. Gude, an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago is the Founding Director of the Spiral Workshop, a curriculum research project in which teens investigate contemporary community and personal issues through contemporary art practices. In 2000, Gude began the Contemporary Community Curriculum Initiative. Through the CCC, K-12 art teachers and professional artists collaboratively develop curriculum based on postmodern art and community issues. Gude has also received an Illinois Alliance for Arts Education Service Award for her contributions to the field of art education. Olivia Gude frequently presents lectures and workshops on the transformation of art education, introducing contemporary art practices to K-12 students, community art practices, and on her work as a collaborative public artist.
