Illicit trafficking in art and cultural property is a major category of international crime. This includes theft of individual works of art, fraud, pillaging of archaeological sites, and illegal export of objects protected by international laws. Lynne Richardson, founder of the FBIメs Art Crime Team, will discuss art theft and fraud as it relates to the U.S. and international art markets using actual FBI cases to illustrate key points. Guidelines for responding to an incident of art crime and procedures for reporting the theft to law enforcement officials will also be addressed.

The illicit trade in stolen and illegally exported cultural objects has grown so large that Interpol now believes it to be one of the most prevalent categories of international crime, requiring cooperation at all levels of law enforcement. Lynne Richardson, founder of the FBIメs Art Crime Team, will discuss U.S. and international cultural property lawsラincluding NAGPRA and ARPA, the UNESCO convention, Theft of Major Artwork Statute and othersラusing actual FBI investigations and prosecutions to illustrate key points.
